A vintage 1970s Arne Jacobsen egg chair. This lovely accent lounge chair is a staple of the mid century modern era. Arne Jacobsen originally designed this chair for the SAS Royal Hotel in 1958. The Danish design has an organic, sculptural form, which was designed with period pushing materials and methods. Jacobsen was one of the first designers to work through the process of furniture design using plaster and clay to sculpt his organic shapes, then creating the pieces using a hard padded foam material rather than the standard wood and steel. This egg chair in particular is upholstered with a blue and white checkered fabric which has a lot of visual texture and appeal. The chair swivels smoothly and sits atop a lightweight aluminum X-shaped base. Included is the original seat cushion and matching throw pillow. This chair is in good vintage condition. To note: one of the feet is damaged. This chair measures 42 inches tall, 35 inches wide, and 28 inches deep. It has a seat height of 18 inches, a seat depth of 15 inches, a back height of 24 inches, and an arm height of 7 inches.Â
