A contemporary silkscreen on heavy weight paper titled "Stop" by Detroit based artist Niagara. Hand signed in gold marker, lower right. Acquired direct from the artist at Niagara's solo exhibition in Royal Oak, MI, July 2022. The artist was inspired when revisiting Motown compilations and made this portrait of Diana Ross of the Supremes. This is iconic imagery for Niagara, which according to the artist represents feminist swagger with drop-dead-gorgeous looks and a dangerous demeanor. There are influences of Roy Lichtenstein when viewing her comic-strip style, yet Niagara's signature style is juxtaposing the classics of Pop Art with vintage glamour and femme fatale beauties. Niagara, born in Detroit, Michigan, 1955, is a painter and musician. She was the lead vocalist of the proto-punk rock bands Destroy All Monsters and Dark Carnival. Her painting derives principally from the Lowbrow art movement. Dimensions: 23.75"h x 19"w (framed). In very good condition.Â
